DOLCE Wins Gold at Kinsale Shark Awards

DOLCE has won Gold for Best Original Music at the 2021 Kinsale Shark Awards in the Short Film category. The company was awarded the top prize for its composition work on ‘The Shimmering Extraordinary: Annie’, one of two films completed for the inaugural Safe To Be Me Festival by Scottish Ballet this year.

The short, which was directed by FX Goby and produced by Nexus Studios, and which premiered via NOWNESS in May 2021, follows dance artist Annie Edwards, who suffers from a physical disability called cartilage hair hypoplasia. DOLCE crafted an elegant piano piece fused with strings and rousing vocals for the film, which finds Edwards performing as she describes the sense of liberation she achieves through dancing, despite how it exacerbates the physical pain she lives with on a day-to-day basis.
