Agency launches #lunchmatch week to help support the refugee crisis

DLKW Lowe Rallies Adland to Donate Its Lunch to Syrian Refugees

Calling Adland! Finally an opportunity to put those trips to Pret to good use. For one week only, DLKW Lowe wants to unite all London agencies to pool together their lunch money and donate it to the refugee crisis in Syria.

How does it work? Whatever you pay for lunch, you give the equivalent amount in money to #lunchmatch. On one day, or every day. The average lunch costs a London suit £30 a week. This same amount can feed a family of 4 in a refugee camp for one week. Seems like a good return.

Use the poster below (click to download) to rally the troops at your agency, or create your own. Either way, this is the time to prove that we are an industry that can make positive social impact.

The agency will coach and motivate the ad land community through this week; spurring people on to get buy that extra pack of crisps or buy a second cup of coffee.

At the end of the week, each agency counts up their donations and makes them payable to the United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) or at tinyurl.com/lunchmatch

Why the UNHCR? The UN’s humanitarian agencies are on the verge of bankruptcy and unable to meet the basic needs of millions of people because of the size of the refugee crisis in the Middle East, Africa and Europe, senior figures within the UN have told the Guardian. The majority of the UN’s humanitarian work is funded entirely by voluntary donations from individual governments and private donors, with agencies such as the UNHCR and Unicef receiving none of the regular budget that member states pay into the UN’s central coffers.

What will your donation enable? UNHCR is on the ground, protecting refugees and providing lifesaving assistance such as shelter, food and water to refugees arriving in Europe. They are also resettling some of the most vulnerable Syrian refugees from camps in Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon so that they do not have to risk their lives crossing the Mediterranean in search of safety.
