Devon recently won two Silver Screen Cannes Young Director Awards for ‘Best Use Of Humour’ and best ‘Super Short’ for his Monster.com spot

Commercial film and production company Birth has adopted award-winning young Canadian director Devon Ferguson into its talented family.

Devon, who proudly celebrates the fact that he used to sport a ginger mullet and describes himself as an ‘expert laugher’, won two Silver Screen Cannes Young Director Awards this year for ‘Best Use Of Humour’ and best ‘Super Short’ for his Monster.com spot ‘Stare’, a hilarious send up of sexist attitudes in a whip smart short. He also earned a place in the ‘TOP 10’ at the Berlin Commercial Awards and was shortlisted at the Kinsale Shark Awards 2021 for Best New Director.

The man certainly has funny bones - his comedy web series Bachelor Daddies which he co-created, directed and starred in, were both nominated for a Leo Award and is currently written into a TV pilot.

And his latest work ‘Accent’ for US insurance company Geico is just as comical, lightly poking fun at English accents by showing an American couple’s confusion that their friends appear to have picked up a Cockney accent after a layover at London’s Heathrow airport.

A writer and actor as well as a director, Devon is a graduate of the Humber Acting for Film/Television Program in Toronto and trained at Second City, UCB School of Improv and The Groundlings Theater in Los Angeles.

He works in all mediums - broadcast, web, mobile and whatnot - and has received heaps of praise for his work for brands including Lays, Doritos, Kraft, Head & Shoulders and Shell to name a few. Comedy is the common thread running through all his commercials, making every piece of work a delight. As he recently told Talk Magazine: “The timing of a ‘look’ or a ‘beat’ can be the difference between ‘meh’ or ‘haha’” and Devon nails it every time. When not making films, Devon enjoys spitting the hottest fire over the sickest beats hoping Drake will one day discover him.

Birth UK EP Kate Elson said: “Devon first came to our notice at the YDAs. He's a rare and extraordinary emerging talent and at Birth, developing talent is in our DNA. Devon has a great future ahead of him, we are both proud and thrilled to be a part of it."

Devon said: “I’m super excited to join Birth. Comedy is at the heart of everything I do and I can’t wait to collaborate with a culture that has such a rich heritage of wit and creativity."
