Director and Cinematographer Gabriel Novis Joins Los York

Creative production studio Los York has signed Brazilian filmmaker Gabriel Novis to their international roster of talent. Gabriel is known for using rich, cinematic imagery to create nuanced portraits of the people and places he portrays—resulting in a directorial style that elicits a strong sense of adventure and the unique feeling of discovering the unknown. 

Gabriel’s passion for film is matched only by his love of surfing, which has taken him around the world and created invaluable opportunities for cross-cultural storytelling. Regardless of whether a shoot is a large-scale, traditional production or a lean, fast, and freewheeling one, Gabriel can take on any set environment and deliver a stellar end result. He has an insatiable curiosity and appetite for new experiences, prompting him to travel the world to discover the next captivating narrative to film. 

In his recent 2021 campaign for the sports equipment company Oakley, Gabriel directed surf icon and Olympic gold medallist Ítalo Ferreira, juxtaposing his status as a global surf champion with his humble roots as the son of a fisherman from a small coastal town in northern Brazil. The film garnered a Bronze Clio Sports award and a Vimeo Staff Pick and earned additional critical acclaim as a finalist at Ciclope and the 1.4 Awards. Gabriel’s other collaborations as a director and DP for top brands include Nike, Chloe, Louis Vuitton, Corona, Samsung, Coca-Cola, Getty Images, and Remy Martin.
