Director Álvaro Stocker has joined Splendors for commercial representation in the US. Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Álvaro’s combination of subtle wit, visual storytelling, and raw cinematic aesthetic set his work apart. He often uses various formats such as 8mm, 16mm, digital and even cell phones to conceive films that feel reel, genuine and emotional.

Q> All of your spots feel so intimate and personal. At what stage in the process do you feel like that connection to the material is made? Pitch? Prep? Production? Edit?


Álvaro> I feel that the connection is made throughout the entire process. When I receive a script, I approach it with a deeply personal perspective, proposing ideas that I believe will elevate the project emotionally, visually, or narratively. If an idea diverges from the original script, I embrace the courage to follow my intuition and propose it.

I'm willing to risk losing pitches if they are not aligned with I thought is the best for the project, but I'm driven to win those that allow me to basically be me, and contribute my vision in its purest way.

My background predominantly lies in commercials I scripted, music videos, passion projects and fashion films, places where as a director I have freedom to create work that is highly personal. In advertising, the landscape is more intricate due to the multitude of interests and requirements inherent in creating a “successful spot”. 'm deeply grateful to have the confidence of agencies and clients who choose to collaborate with me. With that trust in place, I approach each project with complete honesty and strive to explore proposing ideas at every stage, from the treatment to the final edit.



Q> What made you want to become a director?


Álvaro> I remember a morning from my teenage years, standing at my dad's house with my backpack on, when I saw Coldplay's 'The Scientist' music video playing on TV. The impact of its visuals left something in me, and in that very moment, I knew deep inside that this was exactly what I wanted to pursue. From that point forward, I devoted a significant amount of my time to immersing myself in the world of filmmaking. I would watch movies with director's commentary, delve into the behind-the-scenes of music videos, all before embarking on my journey into formal film studies.



Q> Where do you see your career being in 5 years? Do you find yourself gravitating towards anywhere in particular?


Álvaro> Likely directing my first feature film. I'm happy to now be represented in the United States by Splendors, a production company with a modern vision and emphasis in visual storytelling, with whom I automatically connected. I'm both anxious and excited to see what the future holds for us working together in the US. Let’s go!
