You may have noticed a recent influx in companies using hot guys to market to women, even when their products don't seem to require a hot guy. (We're looking at you, Zesty and Drano.) The team at Deutsch have created a new Diet Dr Pepper spot "Josh Button," celebrates that trend and flips it on its head.
It features Josh, a model, walking shirtless out of the ocean while a winking voiceover talks about how rare it is to find someone as attractive as he is.
In addition to poking at the hot guy trend, it also plays with the conventions of our "One of a Kind" campaign—usually the person spotlighted is unique for something like boxing or air guitar, while Josh's difference is just that he happens to be unusually good looking. For us it was a way to take a lighthearted approach to “One of a Kind,” since the spots coming out so far this year have been more earnest in tone.
The ad was shot in Miami by some of Deutsch LA’s own creative directors. Some of the shots that didn’t make the cut included extras, one of them an 80-year-old woman who almost fainted—not because of the Miami heat, but because of how hot Josh was.
