Director of ‘Babes & Babies’ joins company's roster

Great Guns welcomes acclaimed director Devon Dickson to the fold for global representation.

Born and raised in LA, Devon grew up in the film and commercials environment. He trained and cut his teeth in the industry as a camera assistant for his father, a successful and influential special effects cinematographer (2001 A Space Odyssey, Close Encounters & Blade Runner).

Since Devon started directing in 1995, he has honed two specialist genres; beauty and babies.

Devon’s style of film-making in the genre of hair and beauty combines a balance of storytelling and aesthetic allure.   He has the ability to create hair shots bursting with movement and radiance and capture luminous skin on both Men and Women.

Laura Gregory said. “I was fascinated to hear how Devon’s journey as Director and DOP led him from shooting women’s skin and hair and applying his skills to the holy grail, the ultimate fountain of youth, the baby. His eye and skill as Director and DOP allow him to experiment with mother and baby and constantly find new ways to showcase the textures, luminance and perfection of healthy skin and the soft flawless quality of a baby’s skin.  He has the patience of a saint and a calm that radiates to mother and child when he shoots young folk and babies.  He’s the safest pair of hands you will find in his field”.

Devon’s revolutionary and distinct approach to working with babies to capture unique, touching and convincing performances and their unique personality, is what sets him apart and has raised the standard of this specialist and often-perceived, difficult genre.

It is Devon’s style and ethos to directing both beauty models and babies which is not only unique but interestingly the same, to seek and unearth the ‘magic’; the healthy radiance, the inner beauty, the natural and mesmerizing innocence.  It’s these ‘magical’ moments that connect with the viewer, the consumer and the parent alike.

In his own words on filming both ‘Babes & Babies’, Devon insightfully comments: “Growing up as the son of a DOP, I was brought up in an environment where the narrative power of the image and photographic sublimity was everything. It delights me, powers everything I do.

Shooting beauty and kids, there are many overlapping intentions; both are ultimately about portraying an inner glow. From a stunning hair shot that looks effortlessly glamorous to a wide-eyed kid chasing a soap bubble in the sun, they both have to radiate health and vitality.

It isn’t only about laughs, smiles and being cute.  Any director can achieve that. It is about a quirky, unpredictable and beautiful truth.

When shooting beauty I’m focused on the idea that a stunning model might capture the attention of the audience but it’s personality that grabs their heart.

Shooting kids is about being prepared, understanding the environment, being comfortable to wait or jump to action. Ultimately it is about having that sixth-sense, being adaptable, to flow with their creative line and move it towards the narrative".
