Director of analytics at Carat US on daily routines and the best career advice she has ever been given

Welcome to 'Designing with EQ' by Carat, our content series that delves into the unique perspectives, passions, and talents of our agency team members and how they influence our approach to design for people and brands.

In this edition, we're happy to introduce you to Martha Mukangara, the director of analytics at Carat US. Martha offers a glimpse into her sources of inspiration and how her background and inquisitive spirit have guided her career path.

Q> Do you have any daily routines or rituals that contribute to a successful day?

Martha> For me, it's important to make my bed. If I don't, I feel like my day will be disorganised. So that's the first thing I try to do. During breakfast, I look at my calendar to see what my top priority is and what I need to be aware of. As soon as I start my day, I connect with my team members to ensure a positive start to the week and address any work-related issues or personal concerns.

Q> Where do you look for inspiration?

Martha> Right now, my son is my biggest inspiration. Whenever I feel doubtful or stuck, seeing his face motivates me to do more and pull myself up. I also find inspiration in the concept of intrapreneurship, which was embedded in me throughout my time at dentsu. I always ask myself if I've brought something innovative to the table to benefit the team and the company. These sources of inspiration drive me to make a positive impact.

Q> What is something unique about you or your background or your role that you bring to the career community?

Martha> Coming from Zimbabwe, I bring a different perspective to the team. I understand the business environment in my region, which can be different from the US, so I am able to offer a unique POV on what brands may be looking for, by bringing new insights to the table. Being a woman of colour also allows me to contribute a diverse outlook that benefits the team's success.

Q> How do you lead with EQ?

Martha> I believe in nurturing a team that feels like a close-knit family. When I notice a team member is stressed, I believe it's our responsibility as a team to share the burden. I often find myself going the extra mile to offer support. I see our work as contributing to a common goal, not just individual tasks. I encourage my team to reach out if they hit any roadblocks or have questions, as I firmly believe that no one should face challenges alone. We work together, pair up, and collectively strive to achieve our goals for our clients.
