Continuing to leverage creativity to unlock businesses and brand’s future

DDB North America has announced the appointment of Tomas Gonsorcik as chief strategy officer, tasked with leveraging the agency’s creative capabilities to arm businesses and brands for the future. Tomas joins the North America leadership team, reporting into CEO and president, Justin Thomas-Copeland, and overseeing the region’s strategic community and deliver on the vision to be the future-forward integrated creative powerhouse.

Justin said, “Tomas is a rare and unique talent. The real deal. He has proven credentials in applying strategic design and unexpected creative thinking to deliver business solutions which reimagine some of the world’s leading brands. We couldn’t be more excited to have him join us in North America!”

Tomas comes to DDB North America from VMLY&R, where he served as the chief strategy officer leading the integration of VMLY&R, TAXI and other WPP agencies into one integrated strategic capability. With the agency recently receiving the top marks globally by leading market research company Forrester for its creative strategy, Tomas brings an analyst-verified breadth of understanding of modern strategic planning as well as a strong growth mindset to the role, having spent this year as VMLY&R’s client lead for the global Coca-Cola Company relationship with WPP. He’s also worked with iconic brands, like New Balance, to reimagine a brand founded in 1906 for today’s world and reposition it in culture through a bold, new global growth strategy, activated across communications, social, commerce, athlete engagement, culture creators and customer experience.

In addition to Coca-Cola and New Balance, Tomas has worked with Google, Pernod Ricard, Colgate-Palmolive, Dell, PwC, Ford Motors Company, MasterCard, International Olympic Committee and Premier League to name a few. Before joining VMLY&R, he worked at TBWA\London, co-founded a social media start-up, and wrote an academic thesis on the role of open-source innovation in product development. Tomas serves as 4A’s Strategy Committee Co-Chair, is a jury member of the Global Effie Awards, and an active contributor to the industry’s benchmarks on marketing effectiveness. Tomas will be co-hosting the 4A’s annual Stratfest conference this month, exploring 'hot takes and great debates,' inviting the US strategy community to discuss the path forward for modern planning.

Tomas said “I believe agencies have been undervaluing their contribution for the longest time. In today’s rapidly changing environment, we have to be confident in our belief that creativity is the smartest and the safest way of designing our way towards a more optimistic future, in which people and brands can equally prosper. This has been the truth at DDB since its founding and I’m ready to build on such an incredible legacy, and take it to legendary status, with an organisation full of wonderful people!”
