McDowell’s No1 Soda launches cheerful spot featuring song written by Amitabh Bhattacharya and composed by Sameer Uddin

The last two years have seen unprecedented circumstances forcing everyone to stay indoors, making celebrations and connections online. Friends and families have resorted to video calls, watch parties and social distancing. Not anymore. McDowell’s No1 Soda today announces the launch of its “Yaari Ka Comeback” song encouraging people around the world to take the jab and make way for yaari celebrations to make a comeback in our lives. The song, written by Amitabh Bhattacharya and composed by Sameer Uddin celebrates the joy of friendship and is reminiscent of those challenging times when friends have been a source of happiness and support. It also encourages friends to come together and urge each other to take the vaccine dose.

For many years now, McDowell’s No1 has represented a variety of emotions, shared values of togetherness and adopted positive feelings of collective joy. With Friendship Day around the corner, McDowell’s No1 Soda’s peppy number is the perfect track to accompany your celebrations as you make plans to meet your yaars, after getting jabbed.

Amarpreet Singh Anand, executive vice president and portfolio head, marketing, Diageo India, said: “The world today is all about digital connections. We’ve lost the pleasures of real-world connections. Friendship Day is an excellent opportunity to remind people that the physical connections we missed over the last couple of years can be made possible only if everyone in their circle gets their jabs, thus paving way for #YaariKaComeback. McDowell’s No1 Soda has been an enabler of friendships for the longest time, and this fun song is the best way we could think of encouraging friends to come together and take a jab.”

The 'Yaari Ka Comeback' song expresses the fun and joy that yaaris celebrate through music and dance. The combination of Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics and Sameer Uddin’s playful melody brings out the true essence of a yaari – playing sports, talking for hours, relishing dinners, and using pet names as a norm.

Amitabh Bhattacharya, writer, lyricist said: “This song was made when we all were living under restrictions & were having to avoid meeting our friends in person for over more than a year. The lyrics express what I believe most of us felt during these times having to distance ourselves from our buddies. McDowell’s No1 Soda’s zeal to spread awareness and cherish the essence of friendship through this song on International Friendship Day is touching and i am delighted to be associated with this project.”

Rahul Mathew, chief creative officer, DDB Mudra group, said: “We’re all living our friendships in the past. The fun we used to have, how we used to meet, the masti, the emotions… we’re missing it. And a day like friendship day will just accentuate this feeling for all of us. So, we thought it was a good time to remind everyone that life and friendships can only get normal when all of us get our shots”

McDowell’s No1 enjoys a special place in the heart of our consumers and has a strong association with friendship. The brand looks forward to friends taking this International Friendship Day to come together with their best buddies and spread the word about the vaccine. The “Yaari Ka Comeback” song is available on Youtube, Gaana, Wynk Music and Spotify.
