DDB China Group Appoints Allen Lee as Chief Creative Officer

DDB China Group has announced the appointment of Allen Lee as chief creative officer. Allen will lead the creative teams of DDB, Tribal and TracyLocke in the China market.

With over 20 years of experience in creative agencies, Allen has witnessed and participated in the explosive growth of the China advertising industry over the past two decades. He started by crafting film and traditional advertising, and then, over the past decade, moved into digital integration and entertainment marketing. In 2006, Allen became the first creative director of Tribal DDB when the digital agency established its Shanghai office.

The chief creative officer position has been vacant for over a year. Danny Mok, CEO and president of DDB China Group, is delighted with Allen’s appointment.

"Allen has a local creative’s unique insight to the China market and consumers, he also understands the operation of international 4A agencies very well," said Danny. "He has a genuine gift for delivering insightful creative solutions to clients’ business problems while setting a high bar for creative quality. Over the past year we have been looking for the best CCO candidate for DDB, and I believe Allen fits the role perfectly. The highlights of Allen’s advertising career include when he spent seven years to co-establish im 2.0, first as ECD and managing partner, then as CCO, growing the agency to become the leading integrated agency which was eventually acquired by WPP, and renamed as VML.

Before joining DDB, Allen was CCO and senior VP of 180 Shanghai, another leading digital agency in China. During his time there, Allen worked on the highly successful Budweiser 2018 FIFA campaign, and also produced a series of entertainment marketing campaigns for McDonald’s China.

As a creative veteran who values the effectiveness of creative ideas, and knows how to combine technology with creativity, Allen has picked up literally hundreds of advertising awards at the One Show, the Clios, Spikes, Effies. He also often sits on the jury panel for many China advertising awards such us the One Show China, Longxi, and the China 4A Golden Seal awards.

During his leisure time, Allen’s passion for running has led him to complete the 110 km Super Race in the Badain Jaran Desert of Inner Mongolia in 2014, the 50 km Tianmu-7 Trail Race in 2016, and marathons in Athens, Greece, South Africa and many cities in China.
