Data-Sharing API Tech Launched by 'datownia'

‘datownia’, the cloud-based API-creation and management platform is today announcing that it is coming out of private beta following successful work with Lambeth Council, Leith’s Cookery School, UCL and independent record label and distributor PIAS. datownia is now opening up its API creation technology, designed to help simplify the sharing of data with developers, to all businesses and in particular SME’s. 

 

datownia, funded by Release Consulting Ltd and a TSB SMART grant, creates webservice APIs from Excel documents stored in Dropbox. The APIs are made available via a Developer Portal that is also created by datownia for the customer company. Subsequent data changes to the Excel file in Dropbox are synchronised with datownia instantly and made available immediately via the API.

 

datownia also integrates into LinkedIn to help customers find developers in their network who may be interested their API. It provides a custom LinkedIn search feature and a function to share API news and information directly to their LinkedIn network.

 

APIs have now become an important component of any online or mobile strategy, not just a development tool. The datownia platform provides companies with everything they need to share data with developers using the machine-readable functions and security features of an API. datownia creates APIs easily, quickly and inexpensively without the need for any technical set-up. It helps businesses share data from a cloud based storage system with total control and maximum security.

datownia currently offers a free trial for 3 months, with a subsequent monthly subscription fee to continue using the service. Pricing is tiered, based on the data storage and transfer needs of its users, typically individuals, SME’s and heavy API users.
