Dark Energy Expands Roster with Writer and Director Alan Friel
Alan’s short film, Cake, has already won Best Comedy Short at the London Independent Film Festival
Alan Friel has signed to Dark Energy’s eclectic roster of exciting established and emerging directors.
Dark Energy founder Matt Brown comments: “Alan has the ability to draw out authentic performances, across his genre fluid, award-winning body of work. Whether it’s small people, animals or supermarkets, Alan injects a bit of magic into each story he touches.”
Alan comments: ‘I’m excited to be joining such a progressive production company. Matt is very director and creative led and so it’s a very motivating place to be. I’m looking forward to making some great work with the Dark Energy team.’
The Irish director also notes that, ‘Having started out in fine art, before moving on to photography and then finally discovering my love of film, I really enjoy being creative and proactively seeking opportunities to allow stories to flourish. Which ever medium you’re working with, it’s storytelling and make believe and the chance to create exciting world’s for brands to live in.'
Alan’s short film, Cake, starring Maxine Peake and Letitia Wright, has already won ‘Best Comedy Short’ at the London Independent Film Festival, was part of the official selection at Raindance and scooped the Best International Short awards Kinsale.
He has an impressive body of work behind him, for brands such as Iceland, Organix, Bakers, Purina and Asda. Alan was formerly one half of directing duo Billy and Alan, with fellow Irish director, Billy O’Brien, who together made a plethora of commercials, music videos and short films. Billy and Alan are currently developing several long form projects together, for the likes of Paramount studios and Bad Robot.
