John will be responsible for leading talented multidisciplinary creative teams and delivering culturally relevant solutions that connect with audiences

Cossette has hired UK-born John Osborne, a multi-award-winning creative, as Vancouver’s new group creative director. In this role, John will be responsible for leading talented multidisciplinary creative teams and delivering culturally relevant solutions that connect with audiences and land with impact.

After working for top agencies in Scotland and England, John is coming to Cossette from creative UK agency Creature and has worked with a range of clients, including Dunelm (UK’s #1 homeware store), Church & Dwight (global pharma and household group), Capital One, The Royal Navy, and London Power (Mayor of London’s energy company).

“I firmly believe that there’s always a way to make brilliant work no matter the message, money or medium,” said John. “This is why I’m thrilled to be joining the Cossette team. They’re an excellent bunch of minds with a roster of brilliant clients, and I can’t wait to turn our ambitions into reality.”

John’s work has not only won top industry awards for creativity, but also for effectiveness. The film Nobody Is Normal, a stop-motion epic about mental health, bullying and identity produced for iconic British charity Childline/NSPCC, set to Radiohead’s “Creep,” won top awards at Cannes and D&AD, including a coveted Gold Lion and Yellow Pencil, respectively.

Committed to ensuring he leaves things better than he found them, John invests his spare time in D&I initiatives and proactive projects tackling causes he believes in. He’s also the co-founder of Queer Ad Folk, a project to showcase LGBTQIA+ talent - not only existing, but thriving - in the ad industry, to let up-and-comers know that there’s a space for them out there.

“John is a brilliant creative, but what truly sets him apart from the rest is his ability to nurture and grow talent,” says Robyn Smith, VP, general manager at Cossette in Vancouver. “John is always tuned into the world around him and brings an undeniable passion for ideas that push the craft to the highest possible standard.”

In his new role at Cossette, John will oversee the creative team for a number of clients, including TELUS, McDonald’s Canada, Tourism Yukon, and Coast Capital. John will be working closely with Max MacBeath, head of strategy, who joined in 2022, and Erin Pongracz, senior director, client services, who was promoted to head up business leadership in 2021.
