Marquez, a celebrated Colombian copywriter,has decided to pursue a different kind of writing career. It’s understood that Marquez was sad to leave his colleagues at JWT, particularly his creative partner Carlos Fuentes. It seems that Marquez couldn’t suppress his personal ambitions any longer.
His announcement comes at a good time, since The Winston Fletcher Fiction Prize opens its doors to entries next month.
Reading of Marquez’s departure, Sir Tim Waterston of The Winston Fletcher Fiction Prize commented, “History has shown us that some of the greatest writers in the world have been born out of advertising agencies. Our aim with The Winston Fletcher Fiction Prize is to help encourage aspiring writers like Marquéz.”
Entries for the 2017 Fiction Prize are now officially open, and short stories or passages from longer novels will be accepted anywhere up to 4000 words.
It is free to enter, there is a prize fundof £2000, and the closing date for entries is 31st August 2017.
