Composer Hermeto Pascoal Auctions Unseen and Exclusive Content through Brazilian NFT Platform Phonogram.me

On 19th August, Phonogram.me, the first Brazilian NFT platform specialising in the music business, is holding an unseen auction series of Hermeto Pascoal’s musical content in NFTs. A physical book will be auctioned with unseen scores handmade by the musician, a digital version of this book, as well as separated scores. However, there's a twist: Hermeto will set the scores free so the buyers can use them - with the proper credits - in their own discs. Using the songs for commercial purposes, like TV and advertising, is not allowed. 

His ability to manipulate every element and turn it into music, gave Hermeto the title of the 'Sound Wizard'. With a 71 years long career, Hermeto is known for harmonising regional rhythms, like “forró” and “baião” with jazz, and erudite music with the popular. His productions scored him lots of awards, like Best Instrumental Arranging (Sharp), the Ary Barroso Award in 1996, and Latin Grammy of Best Portuguese based Music Album. According to Miles Davis, he was “the most astounding” musician in the world. 

Hermeto is working constantly on new productions and found, in this partnership with Phonogram.me, a way to get together with his admirers and revisit his compositions. Three NFT options will be auctioned: with the first, the buyer receives a physical score book and its digital version in a permalink (IFPS), with an eight PHONOS minimum bid; in the second one, ten NFTs of the complete score book’s PDF version, with a two PHONOS minimum bid each; and, in the third option, the separated scores, with a 0.3 PHONOS minimum bid. 

To make the operations easier, Phonogram.me works with its own crypto coin - PHONO - which is stored in the buyer’s digital wallet and is based on R$. Each coin has the fixed value of R$1.000,00. Lucas Mayer, partner and co-founder of Phonogram.me, comments: “Beyond allowing new commercial partnerships, NFT is slowly becoming a possibility for compensation for the artists and of visibility for their work."
