Pamela> The world and our business is shifting right before our eyes. For others, this would be a scary thought, but at Code and Theory change is our constant. We’ve been evolving along with technology for 22 years. We have a special blend of 50% engineer and 50% creative talent who sincerely enjoy playing with the new tools, learning and seeing what we can create for clients that’s never been done before.
One of my favourite things about Code and Theory is that we operate with very little red tape as a start up but we have the stability of a larger company. We are humble enough to know when we have to pivot, and nimble enough to create change at a pace that keeps up with our environment. We also love finding the right people to help us do this, bring in fresh ideas and tell us how we can do better.
Pamela> It’s important to embrace the journey and the incredible people you will meet along the way. It’s so valuable to be present in those relationships. Getting the job is just the beginning. How you collaborate and nurture relationships is one of the most impactful things that will impact your career.
As we move along in our careers, we not only learn and grow but we collect mentors, sponsors and advocates. We are inspired by managers and co-workers we want to be like.
Take it all in, find the people that are in your camp, focus on doing a great job and have some fun in the process!
Pamela> Code and Theory is very focused on making sure we are putting the right people in the right positions. We believe that everyone should be pushed to their full potential and know they can only achieve that if they are in the right role which harnesses their best skills. We take risks on people, move people around, ask people to take on more or to pivot sometimes. We don’t like to hire people who aren’t interested in thinking outside the box. We value openness, curiosity and the flexibility to do things differently. We push ourselves and our peers to try and achieve their full potential and are obsessed with being real and direct.
Pamela> Code and Theory is a bit like New York City, from the outside people assume we are intense and all about the hustle. While we do believe in hard work and excellence, once you get to know us you realise that we are real, friendly people with a common goal of great work, honest conversations and community. Even on the most challenging days, I feel gratitude that I get to work around incredible people every day and am always amazed about what we can accomplish.
Pamela> It’s ok to be nervous or uncomfortable, that is when you do your best growing. If you want to get better and grow, run towards the uncomfortable and challenging, not away from it. Also, listen more. It’s amazing how much you can learn about yourself and others by actively listening and taking it all in without rushing to say your part.
