Cheil Worldwide Bags Seven Pencils at D&AD Awards 2019

Cheil Worldwide bagged seven Pencils - one Yellow, a Graphite and five Wood - at the D&AD Awards 2019.

A Yellow Pencil and a Graphite Pencil came from Sound Design and Use of Music category. Yellow Pencil went to ‘Pride in London – Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ by BMB. The two- minute film serves to highlight the array of challenges UK’s LGBT+ community still faces. The film starts with a young man sitting in his bedsit, having flashbacks to an attack. In spite of the painful wounds and memories, he starts to sing a raw but warm version of ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow.’ The film then moves across different scenarios experienced by the community, all singing a line from the song. The campaign also won Wood Pencil in Casting.

Graphite Pencil went to ‘Mario’s Goal’ by Cheil Worldwide Germany. Unlike others, this campaign focuses more on defeats than on triumphs. Mario Götze was not nominated for the national team for the international association football competition held in Russia. Two weeks later, the following spot went on air. The song “Hurt” amplifies the story of the failed football hero, who is already working on his comeback for 2022.

Two Wood Pencils went to Cheil Worldwide Amsterdam’s ‘Samsung SmartSuit’ – a corporate PR campaign that provided the Dutch short track skating team with a cutting-edge suits and a smartphone app to use at 2018 international winter sport event. Remaining Wood Pencils each went to Cheil Worldwide Spain’s project with Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist Manu Brabo to support breast cancer patients ‘War Correspondent on Breast Cancer’ and Cheil Worldwide Hong Kong’s ‘Block Out The Chaos: World Leaders’ that illustrates how intolerable noise can be avoided with JBL’s noise-cancelling headphones.
