Cheil India bags D&AD Pencil for The Good Vibes Project under Digital Design – Beta category.
Commemorating 15 years of Cheil in India, the win embraces our philosophy of creativity inspired by technology.
Conceptualised, designed and developed in-house by Cheil, Good Vibes app brings together the power of creative thinking, technological innovation for a meaningful purpose.
Through the language of vibrations, the Good Vibes app gives the deafblind a much needed tool to communicate. Available on the Google Play store, the app can be downloaded and used for free.
Good Vibes app is the first ever two way communication tool for deafblind community. The app can take ‘tactile input’ and transmit it as ‘tactile output.’ The app has no visible UI, and works on a set of hand gestures and taps, helping the deafblind community to connect and chat with each other from wherever they are.
Speaking on the win, Atika Malik, Chief Operating Officer, Cheil WW India, said, “Our team has delivered a breakthrough creative idea with innovation at its core. Its usage across the world will be as rewarding as the award recognition is. We are especially proud to receive it, since it demonstrates the new age creativity Cheil embraces of solving consumer or business problems by harnessing the best of creativity and technology. Without any boundaries. We look forward to many more.”
“Good Vibes app is an innovation that is built upon Cheil’s core values. We are humbled to receive the first ever Pencil and adding to the total of 6 Pencils for Cheil Network at D&AD2018. We are delighted to know that the world is recognising meaningful work. The real award will come when we see more and more people with such disability using this app to communicate with each other and living a normal life!” added Sagar Mahabaleshwarkar, Chief Creative Officer and Sanjeev Jasani, Chief Digital Officer.
The app also won four Abby Awards at the recently held GoaFest 2018, including Gold Abby for Technology (Utility / Tool).
“After interacting with the deafblind and their caregivers, we knew we had our task cut out. We had to design a user experience that replicates ‘touch & feel’ - the only form of two-way communication used by them. With the Good Vibes app, we dug deep and explored a whole new dimension of app design: one that works for those can’t see or hear. The result is ‘the invisible UI’ – probably the first of its kind. And it works like magic.” added, Vijay Simha, Executive Creative Director & Vinod Sivan, Group Creative Director: the duo that led the design and development of Good Vibes app.
