Commercial production company Cap Gun Collective announces the addition of Jake Kovnatto its roster for US representation.
“Jake is exactly the type of director we are looking to work with,” says Cap Gun Managing Director Matt Abramson. “He’s genuinely excited to tell great stories with his cinematic eye and an amazing ability to get honest performances. And after spending so much time working in Canada, he really couldn’t be a nicer guy.”
Jake’s commercial work for clients like, Campbell’s, HP, Kraft, GQ and Taco Bell and agencies including BBDO, Cossette, Taxi, and Grip has been lauded by AdWeek, Strategy, Shots, Huffington Post, BuzzFeed, Mashable, One Show and Vimeo among others. His latest music video, for the X Ambassadors' single "Ahead of Myself" has more than 7 million views.
Born and raised in Rochester, NY, Jake graduated from the University of Toronto in 2007 with an honors degree and double major in cinema and philosophy. He has always been a bit of an adrenaline junkie (as the titanium plate in his collarbone can attest) and loves all board-sports, surfing especially, considering he surfs the f*cking ice-cold waters of the Great Lakes…year round. That was the subject of a documentary he made: “On Days Like These We Must Surf,” starring a particularly lovable and loco surfing buddy, Larry Cavero. The film received a Vimeo Staff Pick and went on to be featured in surfing magazines and festival screenings worldwide, ultimately gaining international syndication.
Inspired by travel, Jake most recently visited Morocco, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, where he directed and DP’d a series of spots for Alba Botanica. “I’m super excited to be sitting on such a high caliber roster,” says Kovnat of joining Cap Gun Collective. “I love the collaborative atmosphere of Cap Gun and their commitment to developing content outside of commercials, which is something I’m passionate about. But more than anything it’s about their commitment to finding truly unique stories and developing new perspectives. I’m stoked on our partnership and what we’re going to create together!”
