Campbell Ewald has announced the addition of Wojtek Szumowski as Director of Invention Strategy. In this newly created position, Szumowski will lead and oversee the creative strategy departments across all four of Campbell Ewald’s offices. He will report directly to President Kevin Wertz and Chief Creative Officer Mark Simon.
In addition, Szumowski will be responsible for implementing a new approach for the agency entitled “Invention Strategy” that aims to inspire invention of new forms of storytelling and new emotional links between people, brands, technology and culture. The values of the Invention Strategy approach will help identify unexpected ways to bring together design thinking, social prototyping, technological imagination and empathy to what makes people human, not just consumer segments.
“Insatiable curiosity and resourceful idealism is in Wojtek’s DNA and at the core of the Invention Strategy approach he’ll bring to the agency,” said Wertz. “With the increasing complexity of modern business and our industry’s evolving relationship with technology, Invention Strategy will uncover transformative opportunities our clients can leverage for cultural intervention.”
“I am inspired to join a talented team of people and help bring invention design values into the agency’s creative strategy process,” said Szumowski. “Invention Strategy is about helping people find new doors to brand stories, and Campbell Ewald will be the perfect place to unlock this approach.”
Szumowski joins Campbell Ewald from Crispin Porter + Bogusky (CP+B), where he most recently served as Executive Vice President of Poetic Technology. While there he fostered an original vision of the Invention Strategy process, and in doing so, brought together CP+B’s creative strategy, invention design thinking and creative technology capabilities. For more than a decade at CP+B, Szumowski worked with notable brands such as Volkswagen, Virgin Atlantic, IKEA, Hulu, Burger King, Coke ZERO and Microsoft, to name a few. Earlier in his career, he served as Vice President of Strategic Planning at McCann Detroit and as a Senior Account Planner at McCann Erickson in Poland.
