The talking California cows of the California Milk Advisory Board are set for a return in a new series of ads for the dairy brand.
The friendly characters first won over TV audiences in 2000 with their laid-back attitudes and snappy banter. The world has changed a lot since then and so the cows have evolved with it. They are just as comfortable in your high-tech homes with its complicated family life as they were on their own California farms.
Fred Savage directed the spots, all of which see the California cows joining everyday families, including the worlds texting, Facebook and lip synch videos that accompany a life with children. The underlying message here is that, no matter how much the world has changed, California milk remains a staple and important part of it.
Reactions to the new series have been positive. Many viewers believe they manage to bring a funny, yet relevant, vibe in a category that is sometimes sleepy.
The first spot in the series, "Friends," shows a cow breaking down for a mom her daughter's complicated social life, using the same code words and technology that the teenager does. Upcoming spots will show the cows going deeper into modern family life.
