Managing director at BLUT explains why Little Simz's 'Sometimes I Might Be Introvert' is one of his favourite albums of 2021

BLUT's Catch of the Week: Robert Hosp

New Year, new series! Welcome to our 'Catch of the Week'.

Who doesn't like music recommendations from random strangers? Well this might be your new favourite spot! Each week a member of our super cool team will present their favourite album. And be a stranger no more, because you know what they say: You are what you listen to!

While we're still in the relatively early stages of the new year, we might as well start with our favourite albums from 2021. So let's start with Robert Hosp, managing director at BLUT, on Little Simz's 'Sometimes I Might Be Introvert'.

Ok, I admit this album choice of mine might still be a bit influenced by a live concert, which I was able to experience in October 2019 at Berlin’s mighty location Berghain. It was my last live show before a pandemic called Corona hit the world and ruined all further concert plans.

But what a concert it was: anyone who has ever been to the allegedly hallowed halls of Berghain knows that the ceilings of this room are high. It takes a lot of energy to charge up this room, but this London native has more than enough of that. So, I was super hyped when I got a Spotify notification about the release of her fourth Album 'Sometimes I Might Be Introvert'.

And she didn't disappoint my high expectations: it's bombastic, bold, beautiful and vulnerable, all at the same time. Over 19 tracks, Little Simz throws out banger after banger in the company of can-do-no-wrong producer Inflo (Michael Kiwanuka, Sault, Adele), effortlessly switching between different rap styles and genres. Very few artists can get away with long albums that are actually good and don't make you want to skip any of their songs. But this is what good albums are all about isn't it? 'Sometimes I Might Be An Introvert' is one of the few.

Favorite Tracks: 'Rollin Stone' & 'Point and Kill'
