BLUT's Catch of the Week: An Evening with Silk Sonic

New Year, new series! Welcome to BLUT's 'Catch of the week'.

Who doesn't like music recommendations from random strangers? Well this might be your new favourite spot! Each week a member of our super cool team will present their favourite album. And be a stranger no more, because you know what they say: You are what you listen to! 

While we're still in the relatively early stages of the new year, we might as well start with our favourite albums from 2021! 

"Brilliant come back of music inspired by the 70s. The combination of Anderson .Paak's soul and jazz influences and Bruno Mars pop-funk genes really synergises well on this album. Every song is just bursting with energy and 'Love'. Compared to the current smoothly polished pop music, ‘An Evening With Silk Sonic’ is a small ray of hope of handmade music and also simply good musicians. In addition, there is also this obvious shot of self-irony, which shines through the lyrics and the whole presentation of the songs.

That said, just as this album is riddled with feel-good songs throughout, I find the song ‘Put On A Smile’ a nice change of pace, telling a classically over-the-top tragedy of a broken heart. It gives off quite some 'dream girl’ vibes - and the song is brilliantly arranged!“ - Ludwig Barth (composer at BLUT).
