Global music agency Big Sync Music has collaborated on two Cannes Lions-winning campaigns this year and was last night nominated for four International Music and Sound Awards (MASA).
Winners from Cannes Lions 2016 were Free the Kids for Persil/OMO by MullenLowe London (Bronze Lion, Integrated) and Not Just a Pretty Hairstyle for AXE (Bronze Lion, Film) by Ponce Argentina.
International MASA awards nominations are for: Best Sync (broadcast advertising) for Magnum ‘Release the Beast’ by Mullen Lowe; Best Sync (online/viral) for Samsung Gear Circle ‘On My Way’ by DF London, Best Sync (online/viral) for Magnum ‘Be True to Your Pleasure’ by LOLA Madrid - which won a Gold Lion at Cannes in 2015 - and best re-record or adaptation (online) for Lipton T.O. ‘The Revolution in Tea’ by Tribal Worldwide and adamandeveDDB.
Andrew Stafford, ECD and co-founder of Big Sync Music said: “Our approach as music supervisor for the two Cannes Lions winners was quite different for each film. For Persil, a global campaign, we commissioned an original composition from London’s Studio 32 who delivered a beautiful, subtle string arrangement that carefully narrated the emotional tone of the beautifully shot film.”
“Not Just a Pretty Hairstyle was completely different for our AXE campaign, where the tongue-in-cheek song lyrics - a comedy re-write of James Blunt’s ‘You’re Beautiful’ - were key to leading the creative. It was a long, complex deal where getting the writers to believe in our idea was essential. Thankfully everything came together and the results speak for themselves. We’ve since released the track and made it available to stream and download as well as re-recording local adaptations for various territories – my personal favourite being the French version, check it out here.”
“We’re delighted to have played a part in both of these films, which have been rightly recognised for their enormous creativity, and would like to give our congratulations to MullenLowe, Ponce and everyone else who contributed.”
Speaking about the International MASA nominations Andy said: “We don’t normally shout about these things but frankly we’re chuffed to bits and we’re in some impressive company too. So congrats to all the other nominees and we’re looking forward to the winners’ announcement on 14th July!”
Other campaigns (and Big Sync collaborations) short listed at Cannes 2016 include:
AXE: Find Your Magic
Persil: Monster Stains
Pot Noodle: The Ring.
Big Sync, which was founded in 2013 by Andy Stafford, Dominic Caisley and Phil Lawlor, last year also picked up a London International Award (LIA) for Samsung Gear Circle (use of music) featuring Barbara Dane’s ‘I’m On My Way’.
