This week sees the launch of the new BBC Sounds app’s brand identity, created by Mother Design. The brand identity is used across the BBC Sounds app, built and designed by the BBC’s in-house team brings together live and on demand radio, music and podcasts into a single personalised free app.
Every user’s experience of BBC Sounds will be unique as it’s designed to learn from user listening habits, providing one-tap access to the latest episodes of your favourite podcasts and radio shows and introduces you to new audio you wouldn’t otherwise have discovered from the enormous library of 80,000 hours of available content.
The identity was inspired by bringing to life the seamless experience of BBC Sounds as well as incapsulating the Corporation’s expressive, creative and human side. The forms are free-flowing and naturally invites you to move across the vast expanse of content and experiences with ease.
To balance out the clean white interface and orange highlights of the app, a series of unique hand drawn gestures have been created to overlay images ensuring the identity is representative of the BBC human’s touch.
The BBC Sounds “S” mark was developed to express the unique way in which it unites all personal audio content in one place, as well as showcasing the endless possibilities provided by the platform, with the form nodding to the iconic infinity symbol.
This week sees the first release of the app, Mother Design will continue to work in partnership with BBC Marketing and Creative across future role outs of the BBC Sounds brand.
