The new trailer for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup features rapper Ms Banks and a host of famous footballers
The BBC has launched a new star-studded trailer for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup featuring South London rapper Ms Banks and made by the BBC’s in-house creative team, BBC Creative. With a powerful and evocative message, the trailer forms part of the BBC’s ‘Change The Game’ campaign which is shining a spotlight on women’s sport across the summer.

Directed by Park Pictures’ Georgia Hudson, ‘Change The Game’, debuted during Saturday’s episode of ‘Football Focus’ (BBC One and BBC iPlayer) and features some of the world’s most famous footballers from the UK and beyond in a series of scenes focusing on their skills, athleticism and personalities.

BBC Creative collaborated with Ms Banks, who has toured and performed with the likes of Nicki Minaj and Little Mix. Together, they created an anthem that aims to empower and inspire the next generation of women who might follow in these athletes footsteps.

A re-work of the early noughties track ‘Remember The Name’ was developed, created and produced by women and with women at the forefront.

In the trailer, Ms Banks captures the hunger, passion, drive and talent that forms the basis for the players’ motivations. With lines like, ‘In history her name she writes’ and ‘Busting down all the doors we ain’t even putting the keys in’. The song and accompanying film makes it clear that, after France 2019, the nation will ‘Remember The Name’ of each and every one of these incredible athletes.

Ms Banks said: “Working in a male dominated industry myself I can understand and appreciate some of what it must be like for women in sport and so I felt very passionate and eager to get involved with the campaign. Sport can unify people all over the world so this summer especially we have an opportunity to come together to support and empower these incredible women.”

James Parry, head of marketing – BBC Sport and Events said: “We are delighted to have worked with the immensely talented Ms Banks on this campaign which celebrates the incredible stories and talents of the players. Ms Banks brought her own unique style to the project, creating a track that we think encapsulates everything that is so exciting about this summer’s Women’s World Cup. Having recently launched our Change the Game campaign, we are proud that this summer the BBC will we be showing more women’s sport than ever before, a feeling we think this track reflects perfectly.”

Nathalie Gordon, creative lead at BBC Creative said: “Over the last few years we have seen advertising change and it’s more important than ever to create work that matters - that really moves people and makes them think. It's always special when you get to create a campaign that seeks to challenge the way people are perceived, with an organisation who genuinely has 'change' at its heart.”

Held in France, the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup is set to be the biggest to date and the BBC is the only place to witness all of the action, with unprecedented coverage across TV, radio and online this summer.
