Production company B-Reel and Cosmo bring to life the inspiration behind the design of the new Mazda 6 in a breathtaking and strikingly beautiful film, "Inspired by Motion", directed by Filip Tellander and featuring Mazda’s Head of Design, Ikuo Maeda. Bridging the gap between past and future, Tellander keeps viewers on the edge of their seats as he brings timeless shapes and movements from the ancient world into the modern world, and prolongs the strength of those movements at their peak.
Galloping horses, a gymnast performing a high bar routine, the building and crashing of waves, and the vigorous movements of rapids all ignite the development of Maeda’s vision for the design of the car. Eddy Greenwood, Executive Creative Director, Cosmo JWT, comments: “Where the average person sees explosive motion among athletes and in nature, Mazda designers find it in a car. We wanted to portray this inspiration for the car’s design into the spot, while still maintaining a level of authenticity.”
To keep the film feeling as if the audience is inside his mental process, Tellander flashes between wide shots and almost-claustrophobic macro shots of the car and movements in nature. He also captured perspectives ranging from aerial views of the mountains to underwater shots. In taking this technical approach to the movements, Tellander adds scale and variety to the spot.
