The CBL’s mission is to explore how the findings of behavioural science can be applied to improve both the effectiveness of a marketing message

Astroten, Ltd., and XenoPsi, two independent companies committed to applying behavioural science to increase the effectiveness of marketing and advertising, will combine resources to launch the Consumer Behavior Lab (CBL).

The CBL’s mission is to explore how the findings of behavioural science can be applied to improve both the effectiveness of a marketing message and the channels where it is placed to favourably influence consumer behaviour. XenoPsi founder and president MichaelAaron Flicker and Richard Shotton, author of The Choice Factory and founder of Astroten, will oversee the Consumer Behavior Lab.

Richard Shotton said, “Behavioural science is valuable for brands as it helps them better understand how to influence their customers. But it’s still woefully under-exploited. This partnership will make it easier for businesses to apply behavioural science by bridging the gap between academic studies and practical marketing applications.”

MichaelAaron Flicker said, “Method1 and Function Growth, XenoPsi’s client-facing companies, already deploy the principles of behavioural science in their work regularly. By creating this CBL with Astroten, Richard and I are formalising our long-standing ambition to bring the benefits of Behavioural Science to many more companies across America.”

With this new entity, Method1 will leverage hundreds of academic behavioural science studies for its full roster of advertising clients. Function Growth, which acts as a “snap-in” team of growth marketers for scaling direct-to-consumer brands, will use CBL to continue advancing its industry leading approaches in e-commerce.”

Astroten is based in London and helps such clients as Google, Barclays, BrewDog and Facebook to better understand why consumers make the decisions they do and how to better influence their decision making process.

Method1 and Function Growth apply behavioural science’s principles to multiple clients, including Heaven Hill Brands, Solvasa Integrative Beauty and XenoPsi-owned Wellow compression socks. For Wellow, behavioural science was used to build the brand from the ground up, from naming and product development to go-to market strategies and advertising.  Wellow’s sales surpassed $1.3 million since the brand was launched in November 2021 and in the first half of this year sales have increased nearly tenfold. Additionally, Wellow’s ecommerce store is vastly outperforming the largest Shopify apparel brands in the country - achieving 50% higher conversion rates than those store’s benchmarks.
