With history as its playground, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag brings the Golden Age of Piracy to life. To showcase this, Sid Lee Paris and Ubisoft collaborated to ”Defy History”, to let the fans become part of a true historical painting that will be displayed in Le Musée de la Marine.
Available on www.ac4bf-defyhistory.com, the 2,30m x 4,60 m painting crafted by young artists from L’école Nationale des Beaux Arts de Paris, recreates an epic naval battle.
The goal of the project is to create a real painting for famous national museums, inspired from historical reality of the Age of Piracy, and to allow fans of the popular game, Assassin’s Creed, to participate and be immortalized in the painting.
Users will be able to place their faces on characters from the painting, by using their webcam. Each character can be impersonated, be it a captain on a galleon bow, a dying soldier, or a sailor trying to escape the madness of the battle. By using a like-bottom, the visitors vote for their favorite faces. Ultimately, the most popular faces will be immortalized in the painting.
The operation will continue throughout the summer. After the best faces have been found, the visitors will be able to see the evolution of the painting as the winners are painted.
The reveal
The final painting will be showcased in September on the website as well as in different cultural institutions such as Musée de la Marine in Paris from November 5th to December 3rd.
