Training app offers support from running to a number of other sports
This week ASICS launches a digital training diary for athletes in the form of a Facebook app, created by 180 Amsterdam as part of an integrated global campaign.
The release brings the ‘MY ASICS’ service to Facebook, extending support from running to other sports. The ‘MY ASICS’ app merges the best of the dynamic, personalised training plans with the native social features of Facebook to create an optimum training experience. ASICS now offers customized training plans for sportspeople on the ‘MY ASICS’ web site and iPhone or Android apps.
The ‘MY ASICS’ app allows athletes to create a personal training goal for a specific sport or particular event, or to invite other athletes to join them in creating a team goal. Catering to all levels of skills and engagement the app encourages users to select the date they would like to achieve their goal by, at which point family and friends can be invited to support them along the way.

Once a goal has been set, athletes are given an innovative digital timeline to motivate them with inspiring pictures, videos, articles and quotes that can be customized, personalised and unlocked as they train.
Content for the timeline is available from the app’s library, which has been loaded with messages, videos and training advice from ASICS and from inspirational athletes such as Helen Jenkins, double world triathlon champion and ASICS ambassador. The timeline activity is shared to Facebook, so friends and supporters can add comments and stay up to date. The app can also be synced with the ‘MY ASICS’ running plan, which gives runners customizable training plans, user-friendly route mapping tools, expert tips and the ability to record times.
The app, devised by 180 Amsterdam in partnership with digital production company rehabstudio, offers a bespoke mobile, tablet, or desktop experience in multiple languages. Responsive design allows the interface to adjust to each environment and gives athletes the freedom to continue the conversation cross-platform.
“Utilising ASICS applications to track training, connect, communicate and encourage each other – the perfect balance between social media and training tools. ASICS is providing the support sportspeople need throughout their ‘Journey of Improvement’ says Katsumi Kato, Head of Global Sales and Marketing at ASICS Corporation.
Says Al Moseley, Executive Creative Director at 180 Amsterdam: “This campaign is all about being a better athlete. Better so you can beat your competition. But for many athletes, their competition isn't another athlete, but themselves. "Better your Best" is about inspiring these athletes and then giving them the tools to succeed. For the first time, Facebook can now let you look into the future, and set and beat goals that previously you thought were impossible.”
Available now, the app is part of ASICS’ global TV, print and online ‘Journey of Improvement’ campaign by 180 Amsterdam, which is based around motivating everyday athletes.
