This month Glasswork's Artworks initiative is celebrating its 4th birthday, and what a long way it has come!
Having started life as a way of using the lovely, big white walls of the Glassworks offices as a gallery space, Artworks has established itself as an exciting alternative platform for contemporary artists. With exhibitions rotating between our London, Amsterdam and Barcelona spaces, artists are able to showcase their work to a much wider audience: the creative communities of three cosmopolitan cities.
Four years on and the Artworks name and reputation goes from strength to strength. Originally launched in Amsterdam, its preview events there are now firmly recognised as the best art show in the city. These legendary parties attract guest lists of over 600 people, with creative folk flocking from all over Europe to attend.
2011 saw expansion of their London space, with Barcelona a year later, and there are no signs of growth abating. Over the four years, the three spaces have held exhibitions for, amongst others, prominent fashion photographer Alique, creative team Hobson Chant and the photographers of Hazazah.
Their latest exhibition, Arrested, is a real coup, a collection of work by world-renowned photographer Jim Lee. As its turns 4, Artworks is proving to be as ambitious, imaginative and punchy as ever. Happy Birthday, and here’s to four more.
