Apple’s holiday spot launched last night - and with a shift from product-focus to people, it’s definitely worthy of rivalling John Lewis and Sainsbury’s in the unofficial ‘who can make us cry quicker?’ competition.
‘The Song’ is a subtle minute-and-a-half spot that surprisingly focusses on technology that’s already 60 years out-of-date. But it’s to startling effect. A girl finds an old vinyl her grandma once recorded on a ‘Voice-O-Graph’ for her late grandpa, and proceeds to amplify it with harmonies and strings. She then sends it to her grandma’s iPad, bringing a tear to her eye - and perhaps the viewer’s.
