Anselmo Took Me 5,716 Miles Away from My Home and Moved Me to Create His Replica AI

If you’ve been inspired by the mysterious A.I.nselmo on LinkedIn, you have something in common with its creator, Pat Cholavit – a creative at VMLY&R Paris, who writes about how he used AI to emulate his creative hero

Anselmo Ramos is without a doubt one of the industry's most influential creatives.

Even though I haven't worked with him or know him personally, his works, interviews, articles, and LinkedIn posts continue to inspire and guide me. I was already an ad nerd, but after knowing him, it pushed me to another level.

He began as a non-native English copywriter and could barely speak English when he first arrived in the US. Now he has founded one of the greatest independent agencies with offices in five countries. After hearing his story, I just thought, "If he can do it, why can’t I do it just like him?" Nope… I’m not a creative chairman or a founder of anything, but I was born in Bangkok, Thailand, a city filled with talented creatives where people tend to stay in the same city for a lifetime. Now I’m a creative "copywriter" in Paris. It's already a major unexpected step for me. He's the one who drove me to work abroad, and one day to be as good as him.

Unfortunately, he hasn't been posting as much lately.

Fortunately, apart from advertising and Anselmo, I’m also obsessed with emerging tech. After having fun with Midjourney and DALL·E 2, I discovered this fascinating OpenAI model called GPT-3.

“Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3 is an autoregressive language model that uses deep learning to produce human-like text”, this is the definition from the OpenAI’s document. Basically, it is an AI that can generate text and can be utilised to create a chatbot. I know nothing about coding, but after messing with the GPT-3 for a month, I successfully fine tuned the AI and fed it with all of Anselmo’s articles, interviews, and LinkedIn posts that could be found on the internet.

A.I.nselmo, an AI Anselmo's LinkedIn post generator, is the result.

There's no question that it won't be as great as the real Anselmo Ramos, but strangely, a lot of the posts it creates still actually inspire me.

For example,
Ideas are not born fully formed.
They start as an emotion.
An intuition.
A gut feeling.
Sometimes it’s a simple drawing on a napkin.
Sometimes it’s a complex spreadsheet analysis.
And sometimes it’s a client’s fear.
Don’t wait for the perfect idea.
Listen to your intuition.

Or another of my favourites:
Who knows who will give you the next big campaign?
It could be your Uber driver.
The cleaning lady.
The cable guy.
Or someone on the street.
A great idea can come from anyone at any time.
Listen to everyone.
Open to everything.
Life is a giant brainstorm.

I've been running the account for over three weeks now, and I want to share it daily. It generates something that Anselmo might post, and sometimes it’s amusing to see its quirks. It even makes an analogy between "ideas and sperm" at one point.

Looking back, it's ludicrous that one person made me move 5,878 miles / 9,459 kilometres / 5107 nautical miles away from my home and inspired me to create his replica AI with zero coding knowledge, but maybe it's not a terrible idea to find your creative hero, become obsessed with their thoughts, and use it as an inspiration. Maybe it will take you somewhere unexpected.
