director Luc Janin recently shot a promo video for English singer-songwriter Julian Perretta.
‘Naked’ was inspired by the drawings of M.C. Escher, something which Janin has been looking to work with for some time: “I’ve been looking for the right opportunity for a while. I saw that Julian was planning to do his album artwork with a chess game and dice and it seemed to come naturally into place.”
The video was shot entirely in Prague due to the locations it provided fitting perfectly for the perspective tricks that needed to be created. All of these were created in camera, rather than 3D, making for the involvement of a lot of geometric calculations and maths in order to figure out suitable camera angles.
The use of a snake in the film also proved a quite tricky as Janin explained: “These ideas sound fun on paper but become quite tricky on set. As you can imagine, snakes are not the best at taking directions.”
