American Express Partners with TikTok to Help Small Businesses Reach Gen Z Shoppers

Programme launches on Small Business Saturday and will run throughout the holiday shopping season

American Express and TikTok have partnered to launch the #ShopSmall Accelerator, a new programme to help small business owners reach a new generation of shoppers on Small Business Saturday (November 26, 2022) and throughout the holiday shopping season.

Starting today, the programme will include:

- Access to tools and resources to think like TikTok creators hosted by lifestyle creators Anna Sitar and Sofia Bella, and small business owner Brandon Blackwood. AmericanExpress.com/ShopSmallAccelerator on how their businesses can stand out on the platform. 

- To help small businesses get discovered by new audiences, American Express has also partnered with musical artist Chlöe Bailey to create a “Shop Small Soundtrack,” which TikTok users can add to their content. Check out the song here.

- An offer for eligible small business owners to earn a $100 TikTok advertising credit. 

Small businesses need consumer support now more than ever. The new 2022 American Express Shop Small Impact study released today reveals that nearly three-quarters (72%) of small business owners are concerned about the impact of inflation on their business this year. 61% of small business owners say that the current economy is making it even harder for them to compete with big retailers.

Reaching the next generation of shoppers via social media presents an opportunity for the small business community to drive more business to their stores:

- Based on data in the Small Business Economic Impact Study from American Express, if every Gen Z and Millennial shopper spent $10 at a small business on Small Business Saturday, it would support $2 billion in local economic activity throughout the US.

- 63% of small business owners said they want to grow their Gen Z and Millennial customer base this holiday season, and 50% agreed that Small Business Saturday is more critical than ever for their business this holiday shopping season.

TikTok is increasingly the go-to platform for discovering new businesses, as 77% of people on the platform say that TikTok is likely to inspire a gift idea this year. 

The partnership with TikTok builds on the ongoing support American Express provides to small businesses year-round and its goal to drive $100 billion in reported consumer spending at small businesses from 2021 through 2025.
