'Storage Wars' will discuss ongoing issues for agencies, brands and producers

The problem of storing, protecting and archiving client video content will be addressed by a panel of post production professionals at an Advertising Week panel sponsored by AICE, the post production industry trade association. The panel will take place on Monday, Sept. 28 at 1:30 PM at the AOL Theatre at 11 Times Square.

Taking part on the panel will be Ryan Schnizlein, Chief Technology Officer of Cutters Studios and head of AICE’s Technical Committee.  He’ll be joined by Jennifer Lederman, V.P., Managing Director of BlueRock, and Dee Tagert, Founder of Sage Ideas, a post production and production industry management consultancy.

The full title of the session is “Storage Wars: Important Lessons in Data Protection and Archiving for Agencies, Marketers and Their Production Partners.” The session centers around the growing volume of content being generated on behalf of advertisers, much of it coming from a variety of sources beyond just their traditional creative agencies. Today client video is being produced by media agencies, P.R. firms, newly-formed content studios and even by clients themselves.

Many of these entities are being tossed into a seemingly unending stream of video content with little idea of how to manage it. What they’re finding is a bee’s nest of technical, financial and liability issues tied to protecting and storing this data, with few industry standards currently available to guide the practice.

The panel will explain that the generally-accepted notion that digital video can be stored safely and indefinitely on hard drives is inaccurate, and that further steps are required to safeguard client content. In addition, the issue of arriving at a single digital video standard is still being settled by a broad-based industry group, of which AICE is a participant.

“Storage Wars” will provide Advertising Week delegates with an overview on current industry practices concerning content protection and storage and provide an update on industry-wide efforts to set a standard for digital file formats for video. It will also address how this new standard will impact marketers and their content creation partners and provide recommended practices to ensure advertiser IP is secure and readily available for re-purposing on various digital media platforms.

In addition, the panel will share insight on AICE’s Recommended Practices document for data protection and archiving, available on the association’s web site here.
