Being stalked around the Internet by ads for products you’ve already bought is one of, if not the, most annoying thing about modern advertising. But the tech involved in ad retargeting could be more usefully deployed, as Belgian agencies Famous Grey and Maxus Belgium have discovered with their rather ingenious New Year’s card.
They’re using ad retargeting to help the weak-willed but good-intentioned stick to their New Year’s Resolutions. By signing up and pledging to adopt one of a number of good habits, recipients can make up for their lack of motivation by relying on a personalised ad to chase them and nag them via web banners wherever they go online for a month.
The project is called ‘Keep it Burning’ and as the digital card says, “New Year’s resolutions. They die faster than your Christmas tree. But this year we will keep them burning for you.”
So if you want to start running or stop drinking, you can sign up
here. Just one thing though… it only works in Belgium!
