Great Guns announce the signing of three new directors

Good things happen in threes. A triumvirate of fantastic directors, Peter Dietrich, Klaus Thymann and Karen Lamond, arrive at the world-renowned global production company.

Peter’s work displays seamless and surreal observational humour whilst never losing sight of the human touch.  Klaus brings with him an ability to capture stunning and striking images whether shot in epic landscapes or more closely controlled studio environments.  Karen has a sensuous ability to capture femininity and intimacy alongside her talent for story telling.

Laura Gregory says  “ There has been a lot of interest in Great Guns recently due our global workload and strong presence in all territories.  We have been approached by some seriously talented individuals and collectives who find our eclectic roster and long-term outlook coincides with their own.   We are fast entering a world with no rules and they want to be ready to embrace those opportunities with the backup of a courageous production team.   Klaus, Karen and Peter fit our long term plans with the quality of their work and determined attitude.  We are excited to welcome them to the Gunners family”

Peter Dietrich
“I believe in strong ideas, storytelling and humour, telling and sharing stories will be always essential. All the new media possibilities are inspiring and there are a lot of new chances and possibilities, but even reading on a kindle still means you need a book with a story. Thus, commercials and films will need good narration as well if we want people to remember them.”

Dietrich started out as a creative director and loves to dive into a variety of cultures when behind the lens as a director. He has worked with some fantastic brands all over the world including Vodaphone (JWT) in Cairo, Flamingo Casino (BBDO) in  Los Angeles, and Sony Xperia Play in South Africa. He is inspired by the cinema of David Fincher, Tim Burton and some of the old Polanski movies.  Peter’s commercials are a combination of seamless surreal action, observational humour and photographic composition. He brings a unique style to each project working in a combination of media and technologies to create his final images including CGI and subtle post production.

Peter has worked with agencies including BETC Paris, Herezie, BBDO, DDB, Jung von Matt, Leo Burnett, Saatchi & Saatchi, Ogilvy and JWT. His work has garnered numerous awards with features in Shots, Bestadsontv, Creative Reviews and Shootonline. He has shot with global brands including Ford, Sony, Skoda, Vodafone, Mercedes, Nivea, Renault, Burger King, Mars, Snickers, Vichy and Mc Donald’s.

Klaus Thymann
“I have a broad range of interests, I love nature and enjoy travelling but also appreciate fashion and love to work on projects with digital integration as the possibilities are exciting and endless”

Thymann recently picked up the ‘Professional Fashion & Beauty Photographer of the Year’ at the 2013 Sony World Photography Awards. Organized by the World Photography Organisation, Klaus’s work was chosen from over 122,000 submissions from 170 countries. The jury was chaired by Catherine Chermayeff, Director of Special Projects at Magnum Photos and was made up of photography experts from across the world. In his winning entry Klaus beautifully merged fashion and nature resulting in striking images that pitch the sharp clothes against the icy stunning surroundings Iceland. As one of the world’s leading fashion and advertising photographers and directors, Klaus goes beyond the normal parameters of a fashion shoot to capture remarkable and arresting images.

Thymann has photographed advertising campaigns for Nike, Sony, Ralph Lauren and Nokia. He has been featured by National Geographic, BBC, CNN, Wired, The Guardian and more. He regularly contributes to New York Times, i-D Magazine, The Guardian, Wired and others. He has directed short films, music promos including numerous charitable projects. He is also the founder of Project Pressure, a crowd sourced glacier archive that works with the World Glacier Monitoring Service, NASA and UNESCO.

Karen Lamond
“I am completely inspired by photographer Nan Goldin for her intimate style and also Tarkovsky  for the poetry of his polaroids and the clear vision of his films.”

Karen’s inspiring and personable style is positive, beautiful, as well as being opulent and profound.  Inspired recently by the "Thank you Mum" campaign for P&G Olympics, one can see from  her portfolio of work that  Lamond has the ability to capture both emotion and intimacy through photography as well as film making.

Karen Lamond began her career working as a fashion photographer. She then made a move into the music industry first as a photographer and then as a director working with artists including Texas, Lamb, Jakarta, Seal and Garbage. During her first year in the music industry she won best newcomer at the Billboards Awards. Lamond’s talent lies in her ability to film artists in beautiful, sensuous, natural ways. She was commissioned to make a short film showcasing Katherine Hamnett’s Summer collection and from there commercial opportunities arose.  Lamond’s recent campaigns for international brands include De Beers, Special K, Veet and Scholl.

Great Guns is one of the busiest production companies around the world with productions commissioned from India and China as well as LA, NYC as well as Amsterdam, Hamburg and London.  Great Guns is proud and excited to welcome these new signings to the company and to start sharing the work of these three great directors.
