West One Music Group shares its hip hip highlights for across the catalogue

On August 11th, 1973, Hip Hop is widely thought to have been born out of a party in the Bronx borough of New York City. 50 years later, it’s one of the most popular genres in music, from A Tribe Called Quest to Nicki Minaj to Kendrick Lamar and Wu-Tang Clan, Hip Hop has had a profound impact on the music world and pop culture.

With heavy beats, killer rhymes and poetic lyrics, you’ll find something for everyone in our specially curated Hip Hop playlist to celebrate the big 5-0. From chilled old-school sounds to powerful modern pulses, our talented roster of artists constantly pays tribute to the culture and tradition of Hip Hop.

We’ve worked with some of the freshest emerging and established talent to create truly original and exciting music. Featuring artists and producers like LA-based Jordan Louis, whose chilled vibes have graced our catalogue with a ton of his unique, emotive Hip Hop.

Cheyenne Jolene’s confident, infectious and contemporary sound brings plenty of confidence and soul to our library. AdELA (winner of Best Newcomer at the UK PMAs in 2022) is another powerhouse; with an impressive song writing career, she then became a thriving independent rapper whose tracks are filled with attitude and hooks.

We’ve also explored Hip Hop and Rap outside of the USA and ventured to the likes of Mexico, Canada and France to check out the new talent inspired by the sounds of the East Coast and West Coast of North America.

Mexican artist German Briseño brings plenty of swagger on his SOMOS album Flow Vato. Whereas emerging Canadian artist Ceaser King taps into his raw emotion and nostalgic lyrics on his release Love Is Dead from our Zero Degrees label.

If it's defiant French Rap with tight verses you’re looking for, then check out our electrifying Rap: à la Française. This album features various French talent including notable Paris-based Hip Hop Collective Mutant Ninja led by Tarafa Sahoul and Adam, and Lance aka Shadow Kyd with Lo-Ke.
