Publicis project director on building support networks, advocating for yourself and why you should continue to learn

As part of Publicis Groupe Central & Eastern Europe (CEE)’s 'Embrace Gender Equity' initiative that was launched during this year’s International Women’s Day on March 8th, the company created a special series 'Publicis Groupe CEE Lioness' designed to showcase and spotlight its many female talent and leaders across the CEE region, celebrating their experiences and important roles they play within the company. Get to know the Publicis Groupe CEE Lionesses through their stories in this series.

1. Can you share your story with us, how have you gotten to where you are today in your profession?

Kristyna> I originally studied environmental engineering but always felt that it wasn’t the right industry for me.

I moved overseas right after obtaining my degree - the plan was to be away for just a little while, but I ended up staying abroad for almost 13 years. Shortly after moving to Australia, I started working in the education sector and somehow found my way into the marketing and sales department.

Step by step, I worked my way up from a marketing coordinator to a marketing manager and eventually became the head of the sales and marketing department for three major creative and technological colleges. This provided me with numerous opportunities for work with various technologies, including CRM, CMS, AR, VR and many more.

Ten years ago, while leading the marketing and sales department, I had the opportunity to supervise the company’s digital transformation, and I absolutely fell in love with the process of transforming the company with new technologies. It was at that moment when I knew that I would like to stay connected to data and technology.

Upon returning home to Czech Republic, I worked for one of the big four as a technology consultant and SME, deepening my love for digital technologies.

And from that, I joined Kindred. / Publicis Groupe, where I’ve had amazing opportunities to work on various technological projects and participate in the digital transformation of exclusive global brands.

Since my return home, I’ve been involved in numerous global digital transformations across various industries, including FMCG, finance, education, automotive and pharmacy. I’ve also volunteered with a couple of non-profit technological organizations, and I absolutely love it!

2. What has been your most memorable experience in your career so far?

Kristyna> I have a few:

While working in Australia as a marketing professional in the educational sector, I became a member of the Study NSW Marketing Consultation Committee. This committee, established by the NSW Government, provides expert insight and opinions on Study NSW's marketing and promotion activities, both onshore and offshore.

During my time leading the sales and marketing department in Australia, we developed a successful marketing campaign aimed at attracting domestic students to study with us. Our students created billboards that were prominently displayed throughout Sydney, and the campaign achieved remarkable success. I felt incredibly proud of our students.

I had the opportunity to conduct an interview with Colin Gibson, the production designer, and Jacinta Leong - art director of 'Mad Max: Fury Road’ as a part of our educational showcase evening (I was so nervous).

My first and the latest project management with Kindred. / Publicis Groupe. Both projects differ in scope and industry, but both have had a significant global impact on the company’s revenue. They ‘ve been both exciting and challenging experiences simultaneously.

3. Similarly, what was the most challenging moment and how did you overcome it?

Kristyna> Returning to my home country (Czech Republic), after almost 13 years abroad (the U.K. and Australia) was undoubtedly one of the most challenging moments in my life. It was a life-changing experience, one that pushed me to my limits both professionally and personally. This shift wasn’t just about changing locations, it was like a whole new chapter of my life, a journey of rediscovery.

Adapting to my old home was a process that took time, and it’s thanks to the loving support of my family that I eventually began to feel more settled. While Prague’s central location in Europe made it easy to travel and return, the feeling of completely fitting in once again remained an ongoing journey, one that continues to this day.

4. What are your most important tips on achieving success?

Kristyna> My most important tips for achieving success are:

  • Stay curious and be open to learning
  • Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth
  • Build a support network of strong mentors and colleagues who can offer guidance and encouragement along the way
  • Set the clear goals and stay persistent (even in the face of setbacks, is crucial to realize your vision of success)
  • Learn from your mistake (it’s ok to fail but learn from that experience, embrace it and get up stronger)

5. What are your tips for younger female talent embarking on the journey you’re already on?

Kristyna> Keep Learning - never stop seeking knowledge and experiences. Continuous learning and adaptability will be your greatest assets on your journey.

Stay Determined - success often comes with obstacles. Stay resilient, learn from failures and keep pushing forward.

Embrace Confidence - believe in your abilities and trust your instincts. Confidence is key to overcoming challenges and making a meaningful impact.

Advocate for Yourself - don’t hesitate to speak up, assert your ideas, and ask for what you deserve. Your voice matters, and your perspective is valuable.
