The winners of the 2018 Outdoor Media Awards have been revealed. O2 picked up the Grand Prix winner last night for their stand-out “Oops!” campaign, winning £100,000 worth of free media space, as well as taking home the Creativity and The People’s Favourite awards.
Other winners included mytaxi who picked up The Data Award for their “Helping London Move More Freely” campaign, and American Airlines who won The Innovation Award with a global first for their Wi-FLY! campaign that captured data from both moving taxis and digital Out of Home sites.
The Multiple Format award was won by Pride in London’s “Love Happens Here” campaign, and The Brand Fame award went to Guinness’ “Made of More” data-led campaign. Myerson Solicitors picked up The SME Award for their “Don’t Stop Believin’” campaign. Shop Direct’s “A Very Black Friday” and Lucozade’s “Tap to Flow” were both highly commended by the judges in The Data award and The Creativity award, respectively.
Jay Young from Talon was the winner of the very first Rising Star award, which recognises those that have been in the Out of Home industry for five years or less and who have shown incredible potential, inspiring others to use the medium. The judges were hugely impressed with the talent and creativity of all those shortlisted for the award and decided to highly commend both James Rawlings from S3 Advertising and Nate Barker from MediaCom Outdoor.
With a record number of entries for this year’s awards, all the judges were blown away by the standard of submissions. Chris Pelekanou, Chief Customer Officer at Clear Channel and OMA judge, said: “Out of Home has always delighted, excited and surprised people; now it can do so much more through digital. The campaigns get more exciting and innovative each year and I can't wait to see what's in store for 2019, where I'm confident the entries will raise the bar once again.”
Geoff de Burca, Managing Partner at MediaCom UK and OMA judge, also commented: “I think the Outdoor Media Awards are a great way of celebrating the best in the industry. It’s incredible to see the journey that the medium has been on and to see the kind of work people are doing that just wouldn’t have been possible just a few years ago.”
The awards, run by Clear Channel UK in partnership with Campaign magazine, are now in their 12th year and reward excellence in Out of Home advertising. The awards ceremony, held in the historic St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel last night, was a huge success, with people from all over the industry gathering to celebrate the most memorable, strategic and innovative campaigns from the past year, as well as the brilliant people involved in creating them.
