The film tells the story of Yara, a little girl who’s extremely curious and blazingly full of life. One day, she’s left in the care of her grandfather, a hard-nosed and slightly grumpy old man who has retreated to solitude and the confines of his own home. She discovers his passion for birdwatching, which quickly becomes hers too.

One day, while looking for the perfect spot, the grandfather’s parked car is hit by a tractor. But, because the grandfather knows that AXA will take care of everything, he’s not at all worried and instead concentrates on spending quality time with his granddaughter.

The insurance market is highly standardized both in Ireland & Switzerland while consumers show a great deal of cynicism towards insurance companies. We needed to express our salience in a different and impactful way while making sure to convince our audience. We then decided to leverage cultural resonance and capitalize on a character trait that defines both the Swiss and Irish way of living: Resilience.

Every element we see in a frame has only one purpose, and that’s to tell our story with subtle clarity. We wanted to respect the audience’s intelligence and allow them to fill in the gaps in the narrative by populating the grandfather’s house with all the essential story information and allowing them to discover the important details that tell us who he is and where he is in his life. Critical objects were brought to the fore – the telescope, the bird book – and we wanted to make these totally authentic. We can feel the history behind the vintage scope and the book, which helps tell our audience about grandfather’s loving life with his deceased wife.

If we were unable to illustrate his pain at losing her in the beginning, the ending was never going to emotionally resonate effectively. In that regard, our props and dressing were highly functional.
