In a space where the only hypomethylating agents (HMA)—the gold standard for treating myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS)—available were administered parenterally, the addition of an oral therapy that could be taken from the comfort of home was significant. 

The launch of a regimen that was able to give patients valuable time previously spent traveling to and from treatment centers to receive IV therapy just so happened to come at a time when staying at home was crucial for patients who are immunocompromised. For a patient population with a median age of 71 years old, this oral option has made a real difference in helping patients take their medication at home. 

Our task was to educate healthcare providers about the new option for treatment: the first and only oral HMA. The campaign message is clear. For patients living with MDS, their caregivers, and those healthcare professionals who treat them, there’s no place like home.
