Strategic Background
In a time where people should be coming together,
politics are dividing us. Throughout Donald Trump’s campaign, and into his
Presidency, he has promised to build a border wall to separate the United
States and Mexico—and it will cost billions of dollars. No matter who pays for
it, perhaps we should #BuildSomethingBetter.
Esperanza Immigrant Rights Project is helping to
build better lives for some of the most vulnerable immigrants in the Los
Angeles area. They are a public interest legal organization working to teach,
defend, and empower children and adults by giving them the tools they need to
navigate the complex immigration system. A wall will only be another thing
standing between them and a better future.
But in order to stop the wall’s construction, this
can’t be a Republican VS Democrat conversation. It needs to be a human
conversation—because immigrant rights are human rights. Which is why
David&Goliath tapped into the perspective of children in this online video
for Esperanza Immigrant Rights Project. Because even kids can tell a bad idea
when they see one.
Campaign Goals
In addition to bringing awareness to Esperanza
Immigrant Rights Project, we hope it will inspire people to speak out and take
a stand for immigrant rights. At the end of the video, viewers are directed to www.Esperanza-LA.org
where they can donate to the cause or sign a petition against the wall. Even
sharing the video or using #BuildSomethingBetter helps keep immigrant rights
part of the conversation online and can become a vehicle for change.
Why
Due to our current political climate, immigrants
need help now more than ever. In the coming weeks, President Trump will be
choosing the prototype for his long-promised Mexico border wall. Our video
features a focus group for a new toy called “The Wall.” Kids gave their honest
feedback about the wall—ultimately deciding to build something better instead.
Target Audience:
Anyone and everyone. Let’s start with influencers
and watch it spread.
About the Campaign
In October of 2017, a group of kids were called in to participate in a focus group. The moderator revealed a brand new toy called “The Wall,” asking for their honest feedback. Needless to say, the kids were not impressed. And instead of building a wall that separates people, they started building things like houses, parks, and rocket ships. Because even kids can see that there are better things to build than a wall. #BuildSomethingBetter
