The role:

The Account Director will be responsible for the overall profitability, quality of service and strength of relationships on a WLT account (or accounts).

This role requires someone who can think strategically, build strong relationships with clients, work well with colleagues across the business, win new, profitable business, and who has strong man management skills.

The Account Director will need to have a firm grasp of broadcast production operations and processes, and a high level understanding of integrated production (print, digital, and broadcast). They will need to be financially numerate, project a strong presence internally and externally, ensure deliverables meet or exceed client expectations, and help develop strategic, long term solutions for the account.


People Management

  • -Manage individual and team performance within your client services team
  • -Oversee activities across all teams involved in the production of work delivered to the client, engaging well and supporting these teams where necessary
  • -Conduct feedback and appraisals for direct reports throughout the year
  • -Ensure training of the team is up to date and opportunities identified to further develop team
  • -Display strong leadership skills – ability to lead by example – acting as a role model to account management team
  • -Step in as senior liaison to help troubleshoot internal and client issues
  • -Conduct regular team reviews with the Group Account Director (GAD)
  • -Work closely with the Group Account Director to design the team structure and setting of roles and responsibilities for any future strategic solutions to be designed for the client 

Client Relationship Building

  • -Proactively and regularly keeps in touch with key senior clients
  • -Build relationships with global, regional and local brand managers and marketing managers, so as to win new work, receive centralized campaigns, and help ensure all work originating in local markets comes our way
  • -Develop a deep understanding of a client’s business as well as their brands and their competitors
  • -Establish high level of trust and credibility with clients
  • -Strive to deliver service and knowledge beyond client’s expectations
  • -Where possible, build relationships with the various tier 1 creative agencies our clients employ to enable us to perform our work cost effectively, on time and to a high quality
  • -Manages client expectations, and proposes solutions to challenging situations
  • -Build strong relationships and trust with the client’s Procurement function, supporting them promptly where required
  • -Where necessary, gain trust of client’s IT clients with regards to our provision of any technology platforms we supply and ensure -WLT Technology are coordinated and deliver the service agreed
  • -Seek to identify where and how WLT could further support the client with their marketing production needs, utilising our existing capabilities
  • -Where necessary, work with your peers within other teams and regions to deliver services, and grow the scope of work delivered
  • -Seeks to gain visibility of campaigns and media plans 6+ months in advance of delivery
  • -Focus on extending the client’s knowledge of WLT’s capabilities

Account Management

  • -Manage your team’s workload, ensuring all internal and client facing reporting is accurate and up to date
  • -Ensure all teams keep the WLT workflow tool up to date and accurate at all times
  • -Manage any downtime across the team effectively, so that it is used to build internal or external relationships or for training
  • -Ensure Monthly Management Information packs reviewing the service delivered to our client(s) are accurate and submitted on time
  • -Communicate effectively and regularly with GAD and all central shared service teams
  • -Take ownership of any strategic briefs, ensuring strategic solutions are delivered against objectives
  • -Where necessary receive any new campaigns briefed from client, ensuring relevant internal shared service teams are made aware – day to day briefs, local country briefs, etc, will not be handled by the AM; Integrated Producers will take these briefs and liaise with the client throughout the production process
  • -Support clients understand WLT’s wider production services and capability, and build processes that are agile and fulfill clients’ requirements in a cost effective manner for WLT
  • -Coordinate with WLT Technology and ensure the support service supplied for the technology platform WLT supply to the client is satisfactory at all times

Financial Management

  • -P&L management on a monthly basis, working with Finance to ensure all costs are allocated correctly and revenue is reported accurately
  • -Working with GAD to grow the revenue and gross profit of the account
  • -Proactively manage and follow up with clients on aged debt
  • -Manage the ongoing WIP position, following up with the relevant teams where jobs are past material dates
  • -Support the GAD, and work with Production teams to build competitive, profit generating, easy to use, client facing rate cards for services supplied
  • -Work with clients to understand any budgets they have for certain periods or large projects, ensuring the shared service teams are aware, providing innovative solutions where possible, to enable WLT to support them within any budget constraints
  • -Guide team to ensure end-to-end financial control of projects is in place and adhered to constantly
  • -Ensure accurate billing for any technology platform(s) supplied to client

Required Skills & Experience

  • -Fantastic client servicing skills with a strong track record of building good relationships with clients
  • -Passion for marketing production excellence with robust experience gained in broadcast production
  • -Proactive, enthusiastic and bright individual, with a broad understanding of marketing production across channels and formats
  • -Strong track record of building close client relationships at a senior level
  • -Able to think strategically and analyse situations quickly and effectively
  • -Confident man manager who understands the value of good employee engagement
  • -Able to handle challenging situations and act appropriately, including managing disciplinary processes, performance and absence
  • -Collaborative working style
  • Be financially numerate and able to manage a P&L well on an ongoing basis
  • -Excellent communication skills
  • -Ability to take on board feedback and listen to those around you
  • -Willingness to challenge the status quo but do so in a considerate, thoughtful manner
  • -Educated to a degree level (preferable)
  • -Able to:
    • > think strategically, and create new solutions for an ever changing marketplace
    • > write compelling presentation decks, explaining concepts concisely and clearly
    • > research new business opportunities and pursue them
