Gender diversity is not just an issue for adults but for all ages including children. Gender identity is not a lifestyle choice, but an inherent right of all people. Gender stereotypes especially towards LGBTIQ lead to stigma and discrimination. This is more pronounced in children and adolescents as diversity among them is not commonly understood and society puts massive pressure on them to conform to assigned gender norms at birth. This leads to children running away from home, dropping out of school, having mental illness, and being exposed to violence (including sexual violence) and denial of basic human rights and security.
This film aims to break the taboo of gender diversity by putting us, the viewers in front of a mirror. A mirror to a world where a transgender child is not chastised, beaten, and expelled from his family. Yet, we assume he will be. But, in a shock twist, in expunging fear of transgender kids the mirror shows us how ugly our expectations are, how horrific ‘normal’ can be. It is this ‘normal’ that must change. Transgender children have every right to grow in a safe and loving environment, like any other child. The film calls on adults to unreservedly embrace diversity and provide an environment where children can flourish. The film is pathbreaking in societal conversations about diversity.
