Minivegas plays 'War Games' with online security firm Kapersky Lab

Amsterdam-based Minivegas has paid homage to 80’s Cold War flick: War Games and the classic DEFCON video game with an epic microsite (cyberwar.kaspersky.com) that illustrates how active Kaspersky Lab Antivirus and Internet Security Multi Device is in detecting and dealing with widespread and targeted global internet threats.

Devising the new microsite for Kaspersky Lab, one of the fastest growing IT security vendors in the world, Minivegas has created a truly interactive and unique WebGL experience combining compelling user experience with real-time data to raise brand awareness and relevant product information of the security they can provide.

Reminiscent of the DEFCON strategy video game, Minivegas thrusts users straight into a dynamic 3D world map that visualizes the sheer volume of viral detections in real time which Kaspersky Lab acts quickly to neutralize with their state-of-the-art award winning internet security technology.

The fully interactive WebGL environment is a hotbed of activity, with virus detections visualised in real-time and denoted by different colours and symbols depending on the type of threat (threatpost). Some show the point of detection while others show the source of the threat as well, with brightly coloured trajectories linking source to destination. Users can zoom in and out of either a globe or flat map view to pinpoint the major threats and identify the most infected areas. A breakdown of each country’s level of infection can be triggered with a click, along with the ability to directly select your own country and share statistics across popular social media platforms.

The visualisation will also feature at Kasperksy Lab events and trade shows, internationally, using a specially designed demo mode which features a pre-defined autopilot fly-through that descends down to ground level and right into the heat of the action.

Andrew Watson, Creative Director, Minivegas: “The threat of malicious virus attacks is a very real, modern day problem. Kaspersky Lab keep a very close eye on what their products are encountering and with access to their live data we were able to create a really interesting visualisation to illustrate that threat.”

Eugene Chereshnev, Global Head of SM relations, Kaspersky Lab adds: “Internet security is a real and growing threat- in 2013 we neutralized more than 5 billion cyber-attacks on user computers and mobile devices and continue to process 315,000 unique malware samples daily. Our main objective is providing online safety for all. Our partnership with Minivegas produced the excellent CyberMap, an informative and effective way for people to see the constantly evolving speed of our internet security systems. Sometimes that is all what it takes to save the world- teamwork.”
