International shopper marketing heavyweight, Marcus Millgate, has returned to home turf after several years working in Asia to take on the newly created role of Head of Shopper Marketing Australia for OgilvyAction.

Millgate, previously general manager of G2 Korea brings more than 20 years of marketing and advertising experience plus an unrivalled background in strategic planning to the company. He is charged with the responsibility of driving and delivering the Shopper Marketing Agenda for OgilvyAction in Australia. He will be based in Sydney.

CEO of OgilvyAction Australia, Sean Taylor said he was delighted to welcome someone of Marcus’ calibre on board to take advantage of the burgeoning Australian shopper market industry.

“Although shopper marketing is a relatively new concept to the Australian retail landscape it is a mature discipline on the global stage,” said Taylor. “Marcus brings international experience and knowledge of cutting edge shopper tools to Australia and his appointment is a genuine step towards OgilvyAction leading Australia in the field of Shopper Marketing.

“An enormous advantage of being part of a global network is we can incorporate the global skills of the business and adapt them to the local market for both retailers and manufacturers alike,” said Taylor.

“Marcus and his team can take advantage of shopper insights which have proven invaluable to our clients overseas and adapt them to suit existing clients of Ogilvy and OgilvyAction Australia plus use this platform to attract new clients.”

At G2, the second largest Shopper marketing/activation business globally, Millgate was responsible for driving the Shopper Marketing agenda for G2 in Asia. In his most recent position as GM of G2 Korea he delivered the global shopper guideline for LG, and created go- to-market shopper plans for some of the worlds leading brands; including Coca Cola, Diageo, BAT, Heineken, Nestle.

Millgate says he was delighted to move back to Australia and take the helm of OgivyAction’s shopper marketing practice at such an interesting and challenging time in the local retail industry.

“I am genuinely excited with the challenges ahead and working with such a dedicated and talented team,” said Millgate. “My key priority is to quickly re-familiarise myself with the local retail landscape and identify ways we can help Australian retailers and manufacturers embrace opportunities from a real world now perspective, and equip them with knowledge for the future.”

Millgate starts at OgilvyAction immediately, and is the latest in a string of hires for OgilvyAction from the Ogilvy network, along with key hires from local businesses in both Sydney and Melbourne.

Taylor concluded: “In the past 12 months Ogilvy Action has increased its turnover five-fold and we have added staff accordingly. We are making a considered effort to up skill Ogilvy Action Australia to be the best strategic Shopper marketing business in the country with the girth to implement these activities nationally. It is an exciting time for Marcus to join the business.”
