Passion Pictures' Darren Walsh shoots new spot

Tesco’s movie and TV streaming service blinkbox launches its latest TV advertising campaign today – starring an excitable BLUE FISH.

The new ad, which breaks on ITV2 this evening and has a prime time spot during The X Factor on Sunday, hits home the latest release credentials of the service, boasting TEN TIMES more of the latest blockbuster movies than subscription rivals Lovefilm Instant and Netflix.

In the ad, the fish desperately tries to get the attention of his family hosts who are watching an older movie when they could choose from a more up to date selection on blinkbox.

As he tries to get their attention by butting against his tank, the bubbly vertebrate yells: “People! blinkbox has ten times more of the latest blockbuster movies than Netflix or Lovefilm Instant. We could be watching a new release right now. But no, we’re watching this – it’s older than I am!”

Blockbuster titles available now on blinkbox include After Earth, World War Z, Epic and Behind the Candelabra.

The TV advert was conceived by creative agency Karmarama and produced by Passion Pictures. The director was Darren Walsh. The media was planned and bought by Arena.

blinkbox Group Marketing Director Kate Simon comments: “This campaign is about highlighting the advantage of blinkbox over subscription services. We have ten times more of the latest blockbusters than the most popular subscription services in the UK, Netflix and Lovefilm Instant. Like the star of our ad, we are passionate about the latest great entertainment and want to tell people there’s a better way to spend their valuable movie and TV watching time.”

The autumn marketing drive is blinkbox’s biggest ever, with the TV campaign supported by VOD, digital, outdoor, radio and print advertising as well as through blinkbox owned channels, including CRM, social and in Tesco stores. The push comes as blinkbox Movie and TV cards hit Tesco stores and the supermarket’s new Hudl tablet, which features easy access to blinkbox from the home screen, flies off the shelves in the run up to Christmas.
